BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Beginning their fifth three-game conference series of the season, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team (9-13, 5-8) was defeated twice on Saturday by Goldey-Beacom College at Seaside Park.
GAME ONE – Goldey-Beacom 8, Bridgeport 6
The Purple Knights found themselves in an early hole, surrendering seven runs over the first three innings to trail 7-1.
From there, UB began to chip away. The Purple Knights plated a run in the second before a three-run fourth helped swing momentum back in their favor.
UB continued its push in the sixth, scoring twice to trim the deficit to just one at 7-6.
Offensively, the Purple Knights showcased a balanced lineup, as eight different players recorded at least one hit in an 11-hit performance.
Anthony Matturro led the way with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Jaden Echevarria and Raymond Morales also registered run-producing hits.
On the mound, freshman Alex Abi-Zeid put together a solid outing of the bullpen. The right-hander tossed five innings while allowing just one run on two hits and striking out four.
GAME TWO – Goldey-Beacom 8, Bridgeport 0
After the 11-hit opener, UB mustered just five knocks in the second game of the day.
Five different players combined for the five hits with Michael Incontro and Liam O'Neal each tallying doubles.
Matturo also added single for his team-best third hit of the day.
