Baseball Wins at USC Beaufort, 10-8
Purple Knights use six-run fifth inning to move to 4-4 this season.
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Sparked by a six-run fifth inning, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team picked up a 10-8 win at USC Beaufort on Tuesday afternoon. The victory moves the Purple Knights' record to 4-4 this season.
UB struck first in the opening inning when Raymond Morales scored on an error to give the Purple Knights an early 1-0 lead.
USC Beaufort responded with a pair of runs in the second and added two more in the fourth to briefly take a 5-4 advantage.
The Purple Knights quickly answered in the fifth, erupting for six runs on five hits to regain control of the contest.
Anthony Armenia sparked the rally with an RBI triple before Luke Meister followed with an RBI single. Morales later delivered a two-run single while Andrew Sinclair added an RBI knock as part of the big frame that pushed the lead to 10-5.
Morales paced the offense with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Meister finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run.
Armenia also drove in two runs and reached base four times with three walks and a triple. Sinclair contributed two RBIs of his own as Bridgeport tallied 10 hits in the win.
On the mound, Logan McGrath earned the victory with three innings of relief, allowing just one run while striking out two.
In the ninth, Joaquin Brasher entered with two runners aboard and no outs and escaped the jam to record his fifth career save.
