BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of six conference games in 72 hours, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team split a doubleheader against Post University on Monday afternoon at Seaside Park. The Purple Knights earned an 8-1 win in the finale after dropping an 11-5 opener.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 8, Post 1
Freshman Alex Bulger was instrumental in UB's triumphant series capper. The right-hander allowed just one run on five hits across a complete-game seven innings.
Bulger now has five outings this season in which he has allowed two or fewer runs.
Offensively, five different Purple Knights recorded RBIs while Liam O'Neal, Marcos Dominguez and Vin Mallon all had two hits apiece.
O'Neal and Dominguez each produced runs with singles while Mallon registered UB's lone extra-base hit with a double in the second inning.
Tyler Pennisi, meanwhile, put Bridgeport on the board with a two-run single in the second.
GAME ONE – Post 11, Bridgeport 5
Runners left on base served as a major factor in UB's loss on Monday. The Purple Knights, who piled up 12 hits and nine walks, left 16 runners on, nine of which were in scoring position.
Jeremy Rodrigues led the Bridgeport offense in the opener. The senior reached base four times while going 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Rodrigues continues to lead the Purple Knights in most offensive categories this season, including total hits (47), batting average (.353), on-base percentage (.449) and slugging percentage (.624).
Mallon, O'Neal and Pennisi all joined in with two more hits in the opener.
Dominguez, meanwhile, finished with a team-high two RBIs in the first game courtesy of a sac fly in the first and a single in the ninth.
