Baseball Drops Two Close Games at Goldey-Beacom
Purple Knights fall 13-11 in the opener before dropping a 4-3 finale.

HOCKESSIN, Del. – Playing their 11th consecutive conference doubleheader, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped a pair of games at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday.
GAME ONE – Goldey-Beacom 13, Bridgeport 11
The Purple Knights nearly erased a 13-1 deficit in the opener, falling just a couple of runs short. Goldey-Beacom supplied nine of their 13 runs in the third inning.
Jay Hamilton led UB's offense with a 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs and two runs scored. He launched his second home run of the season—a two-run blast—in the fifth inning.
Anthony Armenia also hammered a two-run home run in the first game to signify his first career long ball. He finished with three RBIs in the game after also walking with the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Liam O'Neal and Christian Ortiz joined in with RBI singles in the first contest of the day while Marcos Dominguez and Vin Mallon each earned bases-loaded walks.
Dominiguez reached base a team-best four times courtesy of a single and three walks.
All in all, seven different UB players recorded at least one RBI and/or one hit in the high-scoring first game.
On the other side of the ball, Thomas Stapleton rattled off four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The left-hander yielded just two hits.
GAME TWO – Goldey-Beacom 4, Bridgeport 3
A four-run second inning from the Lightning proved to be the difference in the finale.
Jeremy Rodrigues sparked UB's offense with a pair of RBI hits. He put the Purple Knights on the board with a single in the first inning that scored Dominguez before recording an RBI double in the third that scored Christian Ortiz.
Rodrigues continues his terrific senior campaign that features 41 hits, a .350 batting average, a .607 slugging percentage and a .450 on-base percentage—all of which serve as team bests.
O'Neal notched Bridgeport's third home run of the day, a solo shot in the third inning. O'Neal has now muscled out five home runs this season (2nd on the team).
On the mound for UB, senior Zach Ridgeway put together a superb outing out of the bullpen. The right-hander allowed just two hits across 4.1 scoreless frames.

The Purple Knights will host Post University on Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
