Purple Knights Earn ECC Baseball Doubleheader Split At Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Mercy College on Saturday afternoon, as the host Mavericks won game one, 3-2, and the Purple Knights took game two, 8-4.  With the split, UB is now 8-15 overall and 5-2 in conference play.  Mercy is now 11-15 overall and 3-4 in the ECC.

In game one, Mercy scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up the victory.

Junior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) had two of his team's four hits in the opener and drove in a run, and freshman Joey Grillo (Sound Beach, N.Y.) knocked in UB's other tally.

In game two, sophomore Patrick Palmer (Ansonia, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and sophomore Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) had a pair of base hits and drove in a run.

Bridgeport freshman Cory Listing (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) drove in two for the winners in the nightcap and also clubbed his second home run of 2019.

Freshman Quinton Carpenter (Magnolia, Texas), the third of three Bridgeport pitchers in game two, worked 3.2 innings of scoreless ball, in which he allowed only one hit with three strikeouts and two walks, two earn his first collegiate win on the mound.

The same two teams are scheduled to close out their four-game weekend East Coast Conference series in Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon.  First pitch in Seaside Park is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
