Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its 2018 East Coast Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon against Molloy College, and the Purple Knights fell in both games to the Lions, dropping game one, 15-3, and game two by a 7-2 score. UB is now 3-17 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. Molly moves to 9-11 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
In game one, senior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) had two hits including a home run, his team-leading sixth of the season, and junior Mark Hirschbeck (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman Logan Allen (Magnolia, Tex.) each three hits and drove in a run.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights were limited to only three hits, and graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) plus Hirschbeck drove in the team's runs.
The same two teams will closed out their four-game series with another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 noon on Long Island.
