Bridgeport's John Ascenzia Selected This Week's East Region Division II NCBWA Hitter Of The Week

Bridgeport, Conn.-Seniors, shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) from the University of Bridgeport and  left-hander Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y.), from LeMoyne College, have been selected as this week's East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for their outstanding play in games that took place from March 9 through 15, 2015.

The East Coast Conference Player of the Week, Ascenzia became the University of Bridgeport's all-time career hits leader on Sunday, surpassing the previous record of 147 held by Peter Barrows. In six games to open the Purple Knights' Spring Trip to Florida, he batted .458; going 11-for-24 at the plate with seven runs batted in. John had five multi-hit performances in six games and also had a flawless fielding percentage over 24 total chances.

Davis, the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, registered 11 strikeouts while tossing a one-hit shutout in Le Moyne's 2-0 win over Philadelphia University last Friday. The only hit allowed came on the first batter he faced.
