Bridgeport's John Ascenzia Named ECC Baseball Player Of The Week
Set The All-Time UB Career Hits Record On Sunday
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his outstanding play in games from March 9 through the 15, 2015.
Ascenzia became the University of Bridgeport's all-time career hits leader on Sunday, surpassing the previous record of 147 held by Peter Barrows. In six games to open the Purple Knights' trip to Florida, he batted .458; going 11-for-24 at the plate with seven runs batted in. Ascenzia had five multi-hit performances in six games and also had a flawless fielding percentage over 24 total chances.
John and his teammates will close out their annual Spring Trip to Florida on Tuesday evening at Palm Beach Atlantic University and then return north to open East Coast Conference play with a weekend series versus Dowling College.
