Rywolt and Hughes Tabbed as UB's Purple Knights of the Week (Feb. 16-22)
Lindsey Rywolt, Women's Wrestling | Matthew Hughes, Men's Lacrosse
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In recognition of standout efforts in their respective competitions last week, sophomore Lindsey Rywolt (women's wrestling) and freshman Matthew Hughes (men's lacrosse) have been tabbed as UB's Purple Knights of the Week for the period ending Feb. 22, 2026.
Rywolt put together a magnificent performance at the NCAA Regionals, finishing third at 131 pounds with a 4-1 record to punch her ticket to the 2026 NCAA Championships in Coralville, Iowa. In the decisive third-place bout, she secured her national berth in emphatic fashion, pinning D'Youville's Madison Wellen to clinch the spot. All four of Rywolt's victories at regionals came by fall as she improved her record to 23-5 this season.
Hughes turned in a stellar week in goal for the Purple Knights, racking up 22 saves while allowing just eight goals over 90 minutes of action. He was especially sharp in Saturday's 10-5 win at Franklin Pierce, where he stopped 16 shots and played the full game between the pipes. Overall, Hughes capped the week with a strong 73.3 percent save percentage.
