Genç and Middleton Selected as UB's Purple Knights of the Week (Oct. 6-12)

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following first-rate efforts in the pool and on the course last week, freshman Ceyda Genç of the University of Bridgeport's women's swimming and diving team and senior Toby Middleton of the men's cross country squad have been named as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 12.

Genç shined for a UB team that competed inside the Baum Family Aquatic Center for the first time last week. The Turkish standout captured three individual victories in a dual meet against conference rival Adelphi, winning the 50-free (28.31), 100-free (1:01.78), and 100-fly (1:06.91). Her impressive showing has her sitting atop the Northeast-10 Conference leaderboard in both the 50- and 100-fly this season. She also sits third in the 100-free.

Middleton, who was named the CACC Runner of the Week for the second time on Monday, posted another record-setting effort at last Friday's Hopkinton XC Festival. Competing in a field of 125 runners, the UK native placed fifth overall and was the second collegiate finisher. His time of 25:36.46 broke his own 8K school record and currently stands 11th in the East Region. Middleton has now placed inside the top eight in both of his completed races this season.
