ECC to Host Officials Appreciation Week

ECC to Host Officials Appreciation Week

West Babylon, N.Y. - From October 5 through October 16, East Coast Conference soccer and volleyball teams will each host an ECC Officials Appreciation game as part of an effort organized through the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA) to draw attention to the officiating crisis facing amateur athletics in the United States.

The D2CCA and D2ADA are working together with conferences and institutions to recognize the individuals who officiate athletic contests all over the country and to thank them for their efforts and dedication to supporting NCAA sports. The commitment of these men and women to safe, fair, and competitive contests is a critical part of the student-athlete experience.

At the contests noted below, the host school will present to each official special ECC branded gifts with the words "Respect the Game," and PA announcements will be read before and during the contests to thank the officials. In addition, a major part of this effort is aimed at encouraging participation in the Collegiate P2R, or "Player to Ref," program. This program is aimed at getting student-athletes who have concluded their college playing careers to get trained and certified to officiate.

Future dates will be set for ECC Officials Appreciation Games in basketball, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
