Oakdale, NY-The University of Bridgeport
women's volleyball team moved into the NCAA Division II
Championship Tournament East Regional semifinal for the second
consecutive year with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-22) win over the
UMass Lowell River Hawks in Oakdale, NY on Thursday
afternoon. With the win, UB is now 32-6 on the season, and the
Purple Knights move on to face the University of New Haven Chargers
in an all Connecticut semifinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday
evening. UNH defeated Pace, 3-0, to reach the regional
semifinals. UMass Lowell finishes its season with a 22-10
record. The Bridgeport/UML match-up was a tilt between the
conference champions of the East Coast Conference (UB) and the
Northeast 10 Conference (UMass Lowell).
Agatha
Baliddawa (Grad., Jinja, Uganda) led the Bridgeport
offense with 16 kills and hit an impressive .542 in the match with
those 16 kills on 24 attacks with only three errors. Baliddawa
also had three blocks for the Purple Knights (one solo).
Junior
Terry
Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) added nine kills for UB, and
junior
Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia)
chipped in eight kills for the winners.
Senior
Juliana
Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had a fine all-around
match with six kills and 10 digs.
As a team, Bridgeport hit .321 for the match with 48 kills 106
attacks with 14 errors.
Setter
Milica
Micovic (Senior, Belgrade, Serbia) directed the Purple
Knights offense with 40 assists and added five kills and seven
digs.
Senior libero
JJ
Edwards (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) led the UB
defense with a match-high 18 digs. As a team, Bridgeport
registered 60 digs on the day.
