Postseason Awards Aplenty For UB Volleyball

Bridgeport, CT-Having completed the 2009 season with an all-time best 33-7 overall record and falling only two sets short of advancing the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament Elite Eight, several the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team have earned postseason recognition, including head coach Leo Uzcategui.

Uzcategui, in his first year as Bridgeport's head coach, has been selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Region Division II Coach of the Year. Earlier this season, he was named East Coast Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
 
Junior outside hitter Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya), after been named to the AVCA All-East Region Team, has been selected as an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America. Terry led the Purple Knights in kills this season with a total of 499, which is an average of 3.59 kills per set.
 
Masava was joined on the AVCA All-East Region Team by teammate Agatha Baliddawa (Grad. Student, Jinja Uganda). Baliddawa, a middle blocker, averaged 2.61 kills per and led the team with an attack percentage of .366. She also led UB in blocks averaging nearly one per set at 0.97.
 
Both Masava and Baliddawa were also selected to the 2009 Second Team Daktronics All-East Region Team by Sports Information Directors in the area.

Masava, Baliddawa and senior libero JJ Edwards (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) were selected to the 2009 NCAA Division II East Regional All-Tournament Team, as the trio helped Bridgeport advance to the regional final against host Dowling College.
