Bridgeport, Conn.-After assisting on the first goal of the contest by senior Nicole Greenwald (Levittown, N.Y.) just 1:50 into play, University of Bridgeport sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) exploded for four straight markers of her own to give her a team-leading 10 goals and 23 points so far in 2017, and helped the host UB women's soccer team to a key 5-2 East Coast Conference victory over the visiting NYIT Bears on Wednesday evening at Knights Field. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 7-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the ECC. The Bears are now 8-5-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference action.
Wednesday's five goals are a single match high for UB so far this season.
Doyle scored goals in the 9th, 19th, 38th and 68th minutes of play to give Bridgeport a commanding 5-0 lead before NYIT scored two tallies in the 19 minutes of play.
Along with Doyle's helper, the Purple Knights got a pair of assists from freshman Rebekka Skaasheim (Balestrand, Norway) and single assists from senior Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior Karolina Vieira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will play another key East Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Molloy College. Opening kickoff is slated for 12 noon on Long Island.
