Central Islip, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport women's soccer players, sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) and freshman midfielder Giuana Prugger (Ortisei, Italy) have received East Coast Conference awards this week for their outstanding play in matches from October 3-9, 2011. For the fourth consecutive week and the fifth time this season, Hansson has been named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week, and Prugger has been tabbed the ECC Rookie of the Week.
Hansson continued her top-notch play in net for the Purple Knights so far in 2011 as she allowed only one goal in two matches last week, blanking St. Anselm on the road 1-0 on Tuesday, and defeating Molloy, also on the road, 4-1 on Saturday. Julia has now recorded a total of eight shutouts so far in 2011. Before Molloy scored at the 73:19 mark of Saturday's match, she extended her scoreless streak to a total of 650 minutes and 15 seconds.
Prugger scored the game-winning goal, the first of her college career, and added two assists in the Purple Knights' 4-1 win at Molloy on Saturday. Giuana is now fourth on the Purple Knights in scoring with six points on one goal and a team-leading four assists.
