Linda Velaj Selected To 2010 First Team College Division NSCAA Women's Collegiate Scholar All-American Team
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport women's soccer standout Linda Velaj (Senior, F, Stamford, Conn.) has been selected to the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team Women's Collegiate Scholar All-American Team for the College Division (non-NCAA Division 1 schools). A Fashion Merchandising major, Linda possesses a stellar 3.50 grade point average.
Linda will be honored by the NSCAA at the annual All-America Luncheon at the Downtown Hilton Hotel in Baltimore, MD. The luncheon will be held during the 64th annual National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 12:00 noon.
On the field this season, Velaj scored 20 goals and had seven assists for a total of 47 points in 2010 as she helped the Purple Knights to the Second Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Her outstanding play earned her Second Team All-American honors by the NSCAA and a spot on the Third Team Daktronics All-American Team for 2010.
A four-time First Team All-East Coast Conference selection, Linda helped Bridgeport to a berth in the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament during each of her four seasons in a Bridgeport uniform. She also finished her career with 60 total goals which ranks her second on the school's all-time goal scoring list.
