Providence, RI-The University
of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued to excel so
far this season by capturing its fourth straight competition as the
Purple Knights scored 190.225 points on Sunday afternoon to top the
host Brown University Bears (188.500 points) and the University of
Pennsylvania (183.975 points). The University of Rhode Island
Club Team also participated in Sunday's meet and tallied
168.650 points.
Bridgeport won three of the four individual events at Brown,
as sophomore
Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, GA) won the
vault with a score of 9.775; senior
Carissa Huggins (Phoenix. AZ) took first in the uneven parallel
bars with a score of 9.750, and sophomore
Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, PA) won the balance beam with a
total of 9.625.
Newcomer
Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain)
had a strong showing on Sunday taking second place in both the
vault (9.725) and the floor exercise (9.575).
Lorraine Galow won Sunday's all-around
competition with a total of 38.075 in the four events.
The UB gymnastics team will return to action on Saturday,
February 20 at Yale. Action gets underway next Saturday at
1:00 p.m.
