Gymnastics Team Wins Rutgers Quad Meet

Piscataway, NJ-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued to impress so far this season, as the Purple Knights won their sixth straight competition taking Saturday's four-team Rutgers Invitational in New Jersey. Bridgeport grabbed first place by narrowly edging their Division I host, 190.900 to 190.875. The College of William & Mary was third with 189.900 points and Southern Connecticut State took fourth with a total of 188.850. 

UB took two first place finishes in the four individual events, as sophomore Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, PA) tied for first on the balance beam with a score of 9.600 and freshman Tiara Land (Somerset, NJ) had a great night in her home state taking first place on the vault with a score of 9.875. 
 
On the vault, newcomer Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) was second with a score of 9.825, and junior Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, GA), who finished second in the all-around, tied for third on the beam with a total of 9.525.
 
In the floor exercise, junior Breanna Collins (Phoenix, AZ) and sophomore Miranda Der (Palo Alto, CA) tied for second with a total of 9.850. Der finished fifth in the all-around with a total score in the four events of 37.750.
 
On the bars, Galow and senior Carissa Huggins (Jacksonville, FL) were the top Purple Knight finishers, as they tied for ninth place with a score of 9.400.
 
The Bridgeport gymnastics team is back in action at home on Friday night, March 5th, as they host Towson and Southern Connecticut State. Action gets underway in the Wheeler Recreation Center at 7:00 p.m.
