Gymnastics Team Wins Again As Purple Knights Top Yale & Southern Conn. State

gymnastics team continue on an early season roll on Saturday
afternoon, as the Purple Knights won their fifth consecutive
competition taking first place in a tri-meet hosted by Yale
University. UB took first place with a score of 190.700; Yale
was second with a total of 188.300 and Southern Connecticut State
was third with a score of 187.200.
A school-record performance on the vault by newcomer
Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) highlighted the
day for Bridgeport. Mesalles, who joined the team at the start
of the spring semester, scored a school record 9.900 to take first
in the vault. Junior Lorraine Galow (Suwanee,
GA) took second in the vault, as she tied the previous school
record with a score of 9.875.
Galow, who finished second in the all-around with a score of
38.125, took first place on the uneven parallel bars with a score
of 9.750 to lead a UB sweep of the top three places. Senior
Carissa Huggins (Jacksonville, FL) was second with
a score of 9.725, and freshman Adriana Panades Erra (St. Julia de Vilatorta, Spain) took third with a
total of 9.700.
Sophomore Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, PA)
continued to star on the balance beam as she tied for first place
with a score of 9.625. Monica Mesalles took third on the beam
with a score of 9.575.
Mesalles was the top Bridgeport finisher in the floor exercise
with a score of 9.725, which put her in third place.
UB will be back in action next Saturday, February 27th at the
Rutgers Invitational.
