UB Women's Basketball Team Takes Part In Tenth Anniversary Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower Run
Run Honors Memory of 9/11 Hero
Bridgeport, Conn.- On September 25th, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team took part in the Tenth Anniversary Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower Run, which starts at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and ends at Ground Zero in New York City.
The Tunnel to Tower Run run honors the legacy of one man, Stephen Siller, a faithful member of the New York City Fire Department. On 9/11, Siller sacrificed his life in hopes of saving others. Every year people from all over the world come together to support not only him, but also the families and friends of the people who passed away including a total; 343 firefighters. On September 11, 2001, Stephen Siller was not aware of what was going on, but when he got the call he dropped everything, threw his equipment of 60 pounds on and ran to the towers without even a thought of turning back. Stephen ran more than three miles and not making it out alive never crossed his mind. This year there were more than 30,000 people who came to share their feelings and support by running/walking 5K event. The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team participated in the event. As did the men's basketball team from Dowling College. Some of us volunteered as well to stay involved in this experience. This run was motivational and inspirational for the Purple Knights as a team. Stephen Siller was and still is a hero to look up to.
