Flushing, NY-The University of Bridgeport
women's basketball team led from start to finish and wrapped
up a bye into the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament
semifinals with a 78-67 road win over the Queens (NY)
College Knights on Wednesday night. The win, which lifts
UB's overall record to 18-8 and its conference mark to 15-5,
guarantees the Purple Knights will be at least the number two seed
in the ECC tourney. The loss drops Queens to 6-20 overall and
6-14 in the ECC.
Bridgeport was red-hot from the floor all night long
connecting on 33-of-52 total field goals (63%) and 8-of-18
three-point shots.
Senior
Shannon Malone (Melbourne, Australia)
led four Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring with a
game-high 18 points. Shannon was joined in double figures by
junior
Meghan Lewis (Spring, Texas) with 15 points
plus senior
Emma Beddome (Melbourne, Australia)
and junior
Ana-Maria Kammer (Frankfurt, Germany)
each chipped in 10 points.
Three Queens players, Jennifer Robbins,
Chloe Johnson and Jamie DiChiara,
each scored 14 points to lead the Knights.
Bridgeport will now close out the regular season at home
against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon. Game
time is 1:00 p.m. A victory over St. Thomas Aquinas will give
UB the number one seed in next week's ECC Championship
Tournament and at least a share of the conference regular season
title.
