Brookville, NY-Molloy College used a hot hand
from behind the three-point line, as the Lions connected on 7 of 13
shots from downtown, as the Lions (21-7) defeated the
University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 49-42, in the championship
game of the 2010 East Coast Conference Women's Basketball
Tournament hosted by C.W. Post University on Sunday
afternoon. With the victory, Molloy takes the
conference's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division II
Women's Basketball Championship Tournament that begins on
Friday night. Bridgeport, now 20-9 on the season, will wait
word on an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament that
will announced on Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.
The Bridgeport offense struggled all afternoon hitting only 11
of 57 shots (19 %).
Lisa Claxton led Molloy with 10 points on the
day.
Senior
Emma Beddome (Melbourne, Australia)
led UB with 16 points and nine rebounds. Beddome earned a
spot on the 2010 ECC Championship All-Tournamnet for her
outstanding play in the semifinals and final.
Molloy's Kymira Woodberry was named the
tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
