Dan Smith Head Athletic Trainer 203-576-4984 Women's Soccer, Men Basketball, Baseball, Swimming Dan comes to UB from the United States Luge Association where he served as Head Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach for the national team from 1995-2008. Dan also has intercollegiate athletic training experience at
his alma mater, Wright State University in Ohio, where he was a
member of the sports medicine staff from 1988-90, and the
University of Connecticut, where he served as a graduate assistant
athletic trainer from 1990-92 while pursuing his Master’s
Degree in Exercise Physiology. Dan earned his Bachelor’s
Degree in Sports Medicine and Physical Education K-12.
Prior to joining the US Luge Association, he worked in the professional ranks serving as the head athletic trainer from the Detroit Rockers soccer team from 1993-95. During his time with the Rockers, Smith also gained a large amount of knowledge in the area of injury rehabilitation also working at the Henry Ford Hospital Center for Athletic Medicine where he helped treat players from all of the Motor City’s major professional sports team including the NHL’s Red Wings, the NFL’s Lions and Major League Baseball’s Tigers. Along with working with the US Luge Association, Dan has served as an Olympic Team Athletic Trainer and Strength and Condition Coach at the Winter Games in 1998, 2002 and 2006, where he assisted athletes, along with the US lugers, from the bobsled, skeleton, ice hockey plus ski jumping teams A collegiate athlete, Smith was a Division I wrestler at Wright State, and he also received an Outstanding Alumni Award from WSU in 2007. |

Leah Dunagan Associate Athletic Trainer 203-576-4798 Insurance Coordinator, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Lacrosse Leah Dunagan is entering her second season as Associate Athletic Trainer at the University of Bridgeport. She will be primarily working with the volleyball, gymnastics and lacrosse teams. Leah is also the coordinator for insurance coverage for the Purple Knight student-athletes. Prior to working at the University of Bridgeport, Leah was a
graduate assistant athletic trainer for North Carolina State
University where she received her Master’s degree in Adult
and Higher Education with a Health Education Emphasis. She
worked with the women’s soccer and volleyball teams while
helping with the gymnastics and co-ed cheerleading teams in her
time at NC State. In 2010, Leah received the Helping Hands
Award from the Wolfpack athletic department. Her bachelor’s
degree was earned at the University of Cincinnati in Health
Promotion Education with an emphasis is Athletic Training through
an accredited program. Leah was also a cheerleader for the
Bearcats during her freshman year.
Leah attended Solon High School in Solon, Ohio where she was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader. |

Ben St. Martin Associate Athletic Trainer 203-576-4798 Men's Soccer, Women's Basketball, Softball, Cross Country Ben St.Martin is in his first year at UB as a full time athletic trainer and works with our men’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball teams. He comes to UB after spending the last two years in a graduate assistant athletic training position at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. At St. John’s Ben worked full time with the ice hockey and track and field teams while assisting with football and also completed graduate classes as St. Cloud State University. Before moving to Minnesota, Ben received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Athletic Training. Originally from Columbia, Connecticut, he is excited to be back in his home state and working with our great athletics staff. |
