Softball Wraps Up 2018 Regular Season With Home Doubleheader Split Versus Mercy

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team closed out its 2018 regular season on Saturday afternoon in Seaside Park with an East Coast Conference doubleheader split against the visiting Mercy College Mavericks, as Mercy took game one, 7-1, and the Purple Knights bounced back to gain the split with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.  UB heads into next week's 2018 ECC Championship Tournament as the number four seed with a 25-23 overall record and an even 12-12 conference mark.  Mercy is now 28-15 overall and 14-10 in the ECC.

In the opener, freshman Hope Lincoln  (N. Providence, R.I.)  drove in the Purple Knights' lone run with a fifth-inning, pinch hit single.

In game two, UB jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the nightcap, and senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in a pair with a first-inning triple.

Sophomore Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) picked up her ninth win of the season in game two firing a masterful, complete game victory, in which she allowed on one unearned run on six hits with one strike out and two walks.

Up next, the UB softball will open play in the 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a single game at top-seed LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.  The ECC Championship Tournament is a double-elimination competition.
