UB Softball Sweeps Opening Day In Florida

Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team opened its 2018 season in Florida by sweeping two games. In game one, it took the Purple Knights eight innings to defeat the Bentley University Falcons, 8-7. In game two, UB completed the sweep of the day with a 5-4 win over Assumption College.

Versus Bentley, four UB players had two hits apiece in sophomores Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.). Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) plus freshman Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.). Sabor drove in the winning run in the eighth.

Freshman Brittany Prock (Sunnyvale, Calif.) earned the win in relief for UB in the season-opener.

Against Assumption, Sabor had three more hits and drove in a pair. The Purple Knights also got two runs batted in from senior Gabryelle Dubois (Carlisle, Iowa) and one RBI from freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.).

Sophomore Allison Luzzi had two more hits in the win over the Greyhounds, as did junior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Florida).

In the pitching circle, sophomore Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) earned the win, and freshman Brittany Prock earned the save after picking up the win versus Bentley.

The UB softball team continues its Spring Trip to Florida on Friday with two morning games taking on Georgian Court University at 9:00 a.m. followed by Wilmington (Del.) at 11:30 a.m.
