Softball Tops St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-5 in 11 Innings, For First Win Of The Season

Sparkill, NY-The University of Bridgeport softball team picked up its first win of the 2010 season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights defeated the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans, 6-5 in 11 innings in the first game of a scheduled East Coast Conference doubleheader. Game two of the double dip was suspended after six innings due to darkness with the teams tied 2-2 and will be completed on Saturday, April 24th before the two teams meet in a doubleheader in Bridgeport. 

With the win, UB is now 1-22 overall land 1-6 in conference play. STAC falls to 2-18 overall and 1-6 in the ECC.

In game one, Bridgeport scored the game-winning run in the top of the eleventh inning when junior Nicole Steiner (Edison, NJ) led off the frame with a double, and she was sacrificed to third by winning pitcher Madison Smith (JR, Seekonk, MA). Steiner scored the game-winning run when cross the plate on a long sacrifice fly by junior catcher Tori Tenzyk (Hawthorne, NY).

UB retunrs to action at home on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights host NYIT.  Action gets underway in Seaside Park at 3:00 p.m.
