UB Men's Swimming Duo Shine At 2011 Spanish Summer Long Course National Championships
Oscar Pereiro Wins National Title In Record Time and Ruben Gimenez Linares Turns In Four Strong Performances
Barcelona, Spain-Two members of the University of Bridgeport men's swimming program had excellent showings at this past weekend's 2011 Spanish Summer Long Course National Championships held in Barcelona.
2010 NCAA Division II Men's 100-yard Backstroke National Champion and UB sophomore-to-be Oscar Pereiro took first place in the men's 50-meter Backstroke with a championship meet record time of 25.79 which shattered a record that stood for nine years.
Incoming transfer Ruben Gimenez Linares had an excellent meet turning in four strong performances as he finished third in the 200-meter Breaststroke (2:18.15), fourth in the 100-meter Breaststroke (1:03.20), fourth in the 50-meter Breaststroke (28.10) and eleventh in the 50-meter freestyle (23.85).
Oscar Periero also place nineteenth in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:05.36.
