Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team scored a run in the top of the first inning on Thursday afternoon, but that was all the offense the Purple Knights could muster as they fell, 7-1, to LIU Post in the opening game of the 2017 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Molloy College at Mitchel Field on Long Island. UB is now 19-24 on the season and will face Molloy at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in an elimination game. The win lifts LIUP to a 28-18 season, and the Pioneers will take on St. Thomas Aquinas in the tournament's winner's bracket.
Junior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) had two hits for Bridgeport on Thursday.
Four of LIU Post's seven runs scored were unearned, as they took advantage of two UB miscues.
