First Baseman Eric Schlitter Selected NCBWA East Region Hitter Of The Week And Nick Vautrin Named ECAC Division II Pitcher Of The Week
Duo Also Earned East Coast Conference Recognition For Their Fine Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport senior first baseman Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) East Region Division II Hitter of the Week for his fine play in game that took place from April 23 to 29, 2012. Teammate and classmate Nick Vautrin (S. Hadley, Mass.) was also named ECAC Division II Pitcher of the Week for his stellar performance versus Queens (N.Y.) College on Sunday, April 29.
Schlitter, who also was named the Co-East Coast Conference Player of the Week, helped Bridgeport go a perfect 4-0 last week, as he hit in all four wins to the tune of a .643 batting average (9-of-14) with six runs batted in and seven runs scored. Eric also had a .929 slugging percentage and a .706 on base percentage, as he had two doubles, one triple and drew three walks. He also handled 44 chances in the field at first base without an error during the week.
Vautrin, who also was chosen as the Co-East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, hurled UB's first shut out of the 2012 season last Sunday, as he blanked Queens (N.Y.) College on only three-hits as he hurled his fourth complete game of the year. In the Purple Knights' 2-0 win, Nick struck out four and walked only one. All three hits against him were singles
The University of Bridgeport baseball team closes out the 2012 regular season this week with a single game versus Mercy College on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at West Haven High School, a doubleheader with Molloy College at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard and single game at Molloy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
