Bridgeport, Conn.–Chuck Sadowski, who is entering his eleventh year as Director of Sports Information at the University of Bridgeport, has been named Second Vice-President of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA). He was selected to the position at the organization's annual workshop held this summer in Valley Forge, Pa.
"I'm tremendously excited and honored to join the ECAC-SIDA Board of Directors," stated Sadowski. "I've always wanted to give back to a profession that has given me so much throughout my career. I look forward to serving the membership and working with all the ECAC-SIDA Board including President, Jason Southard, First Vice-President, Jon Holtz and Past President, Mark Fisher."
ECAC-SIDA is open to athletic communication professionals from all divisions along the east coast, from Maine to the Carolinas. All institutions that are members of the ECAC athletic conference automatically gain membership into the organization. One of the primary functions of the executive board is organizing a yearly workshop that is centered on providing professional development.
A veteran of over 30 years in the sports information profession and the 2015 ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award winner, he was named Director of the Sports Information at the University of Bridgeport in late August of 2007. Chuck came to UB after serving as the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations at the East Coast Conference since September of 2006. Prior to his time in the conference office, he served as the Director of Athletic Media Relations at the University of New Haven from January 2004 to June of 2006.
Sadowski worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and Events at Austin College in Sherman, Texas from August of 1996 until January of 2004. He also served as the Director of Sports Information and Scheduling Coordinator at the University of Redlands from December of 1992 through August of 1996 and as the Director of Sports Information at the University of Chicago from February 1987 to December of 1992. Chuck began his career in athletic media relations as the Graduate Assistant SID at New York University in 1985.
Along with ECAC-SIDA, he is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Sadowski completed a four-year term as an At-Large College Division member of the organization's Board of Directors in the summer of 2006. He has also worked on CoSIDA's Writing Contest and Charity committees plus Committee on Committees. Sadowski is also currently a member of CoSIDA's College Division Management Council, plus is serving his second stint as the East Region Representative to DIISIDA, completing a five-year term in 2015 and returning late in the Fall of 2016.
He also is currently a member of the NCAA Division II East Region Women's Volleyball Advisory Committee.
Chuck has worked in press services at many large events including serving as the Mixed Zone Manager for baseball at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, working at the track cycling and boxing venues at the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York City, working at the 2000 USA Olympic Track Cycling Trials in Frisco, Texas. He has also helped staff the 1997 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship plus several NCAA men's and women's basketball regionals, including the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass. He has also assisted with many NCAA events hosted by the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard.
Sadowski assisted the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox in press services at the 2008 and 2003 Major League Baseball All-Star Games plus work for the Yankees during the team's World Championship run in 2009. He has also worked as a statistician and official scorer for the Texas Rangers Class AA affiliate, the Frisco Roughriders in 2003 plus was the official scorer for the Class A San Bernardino Spirit in 1993. Currently, Chuck serves as official scorer for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in French with a concentration in European Studies, Chuck also received a Master's Degree in French Studies in 1987 from New York University. He resides with his family in West Haven, Conn.
The 2018 ECAC-SIDA Workshop will be held in June 5-8 in Burlington, Vt., and Sadowski will serve as the organization's President during the 2019-20 academic year.
